Carly Rae Jepsen & Lil Yachty – It Takes Two

We can thank Target for this one. Popstar Carly Rae Jepsen, the chick behind the super indecisive single “Call Me Maybe,” aligns with ATL trappers Lil Yachty and Mike WiLL Made It for “It Takes Two.” The song is indeed a remake of Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock’s song of the same name, a 1988 classic.

Lil Boat even pulls from Rob Base’s flow for his verse, flipping a few lines to make it his own. “I wanna rock right now,” he raps. “I’m Lil Yachty and I’m down if you’re down / I’m not the most lyrical kid known / Yet I’m known to keep the party goin’.”

Carly Rae drops some melodic bars of her own on the track, a task she said was daunting. “It was one of the most intimidating moments of my career being in the room with Mike WiLL and Yachty and 16 other friends of theirs just partying,” she told EW. “They’re like, ‘Alright, go perform your first-ever rap in front of actual professional rappers!’ There’s nothing more terrifying than that. But they were really helpful.”

For the 2k17 version of “It Takes Two,” Mike WiLL Made It gets behind the boards, keeping the original vibe and boom-bap element of the beat alive and well, encouraging Yachty to adopt one of his most energetic flows to date. The record was put together for an upcoming Target commercial, and which will air during the upcoming Grammys.
