Artist, Ocean Drive Slim at one point was enrolled in college to become a lawyer but, later discovered his talents for music and decided to pursue them and here we are today! Ocean Drive Slim stopped by to talk with us and his supporters more about who he is and what he’s up to!

Ocean Drive Slim! Thank you for dropping by for a interview with HipHopSince1987; How did your stage name come about?

“Thank you for having me haha. I was lookin for a screen name for Instagram back when I thought I was gonna be a model. My mother was living in Miami at the time and so was my favorite rapper Lil Wayne who coined the phrase “Ocean Drive Slim” in one of his songs named “blunt blowing” on The Carter 4. Me and my cousin agreed it sounded like a pimp name and it was the best screen name to adopt. I wasn’t rapping then though I was in college and focused on becoming a Lawyer. I discovered I could write poetry and I got good at it rather quickly. Now here we are. I switched lanes because I do indeed have the answers, I’m not just a rapper.”

 Tunechi has influenced a lot of music artist through his music! What’s your latest music release? Could you tell us about how it came about?

“My latest release is called “Jeffrey Dahmer”.  My producer sent me a beat pack while I was was watching the Netflix serious Jeffrey Dahmer. I took it as a sign from god as maybe I should write a song about it.”

 What motivates you to do music?

 “I understand how powerful music is. I know my people are more likely to receive a message through listening to music before they open a book and read it front to back. I could write books or even put out poems but I fear being shelved and the answers never being received.”

 We’ve heard that you are more than just a music artist; could you elaborate more on the other things that you do?

 “Well for one I consider myself as a prophet, A messenger for Gods people. I’m a revolutionary sent here to liberate us. But as far as what I do outside of music? I’m a chef. I’m the owner and operator of Ocean’s Kitchen. I always knew my way around the kitchen but, I didn’t want to be a Chef. The idea of cooking for millions of people used to scare me but gettin the Covid-19 vaccine and all the misleading information scared me more haha. Therefore, I stepped out, tried my hand at selling food and working for myself. I didn’t want to have to get the jab just to keep a job. I’ve been free and working completely for myself ever since.”

 2023– what’s up your sleeves for the new year?

 “I have a feature with a well known Houston artist, Beat King aka Club Godzilla. That song could potentially take over 2023!”

Are there any mainstream music artist you would like to work with in the near future?

 “Kendrick Lamar, Ab Sol, J.I.D., Tobi,  Big Sean, Da Baby, Drake, Kanye, Jay-Z and of course the goat Lil Wayne. Other than that, no offense but, other rappers just ain’t rapping on my level.”

 Given the chance, what musician dead or alive would you want to have a conversation with to pick their brain for answers to elevate your business?

“— Master P.”

To you, what makes a song “good”?

 “Bars and good instrumental— simple.”

How important is social media to you and what you do?

 “It’s vital in a society where an artist can go viral through social media. That’s why I’m constantly enhancing my social media presence. Follow me on instagram @ iamOceanDriveSlim.”

 Last question, any advice for music artist that want to follow in your footsteps?

 “Nope… but to any fellow revolutionaries just know that you are doomed but, your works will never go unrecognized in the universe so keep speaking truth to power regardless.”
