Meet JLShotThat, the Director Behind Your Favorite Artists’ Videos

A music video is more than just visual impressions. It’s a work of art designed to help the artist communicate their message. Musicians often invest thousands of dollars in creating cinematic visuals to enhance their lyrics. This includes sourcing for the game’s most top-notch, skilled, and highly gifted producers and directors. It also explains why A-level artists like the legendary Pop Smoke go to top professionals like JLShotThat.

Formally known as Jeremi Thi Lam, JLShotThat is a renowned multi-talented creative in the entertainment industry. He is an innately gifted director, videographer, and musical artist and an indispensable figure in the Brooklyn drill scene. JLShotThat has vast expertise in the music scene, working with various and diverse industry talents. Through cinematic shots and subtle-yet-powerful storytelling, JLShotThat beautifully depicts his subjects’ harsh realities while accurately capturing the celebratory yet overwhelmingly dark nature of the music and environments from which they come.

His creativity and authenticity make him the go-to director and the man behind some of your favorite music out of New York City. Some of the top artists JLShotThat has worked with include the heir-apparent Fivio Foreign, LilTjay, MiG Arogan, and JI the Prince of NY. JLShotThat has also made videos of some of the hottest tracks out of NYC in 2019 and 2020, including Pop Smoke’s platinum record “Dior” and “War” featuring LilTjay, as well as Fivio’s “Big Drip,” “Wetty,” “Drive By” and LilTjay’s “Zoo York.”

Born in 1988, JLShotThat grew up in the ‘90s and ‘00s in Hollis, Queens, in a culturally diverse family. His mother is of Vietnamese and African descent, and his father is West Indian and Irish. Though he originally started as an artist, JLShotThat discovered his passion for working behind the lens. He spent a lot of time studying the various facets of the music industry, picking up new talents like singing, songwriting, engineering, and, eventually, photography and videography. He also steadily amassed songwriting and production credits behind the scenes as he built his impressive toolbox of skills.

JLShotThat’s passion for videography was inspired by legendary visual storytellers like Hype Williams, Quentin Tarantino, and Michael Jackson. His innate creative impulses also drove him, and it wasn’t long before he commissioned his project “Ex Voto,” a cinematic heaven-and-hell dreamscape complete with full costume and a Roman Catholic cathedral. Ever since, JLShotThat has grown to announce and cement his position in the industry.

In just over one year, JLShotThat’s directed videos have amassed over 200M views, with over 10M from just his YouTube channel. He’s worked with nearly every rising star out of New York and directed videos of some of the most iconic moments of 2019.

Given his diverse and deep-seated skills, it’s hard to say what’s next for JL, but whatever it is, you can be sure it’ll be high-quality and out-of-the-box. JLShotThat wants to work with other internationally celebrated artists across the world. To him, this is just the beginning of the creation of a visual legend.
