Comic Book Heroes & Their Cars

Comic Books are all the rage again thanks to the successful films that have brought Comic Book Heroes right to the forefront of our cultural imagination. The resurgence began with Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy featuring Christian Bale as Batman and continued thanks to Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man and the rise of the Marvel franchises including Captain America, Thor and The Avengers.

But what about their cars?

Superheroes have amazing costumes, but there are cars that just complete their looks and here are the cars that complete their heroes.

Kick-Ass – The Mist Mobile

While the Red Mist may not remain a superhero for very long, he does make an excellent impression with his Mist Mobile. In reality, the 2008 Ford Mustang GT was heavily customised by Galpin Auto Sports for the Kick Ass film. When complete the Mustang has 550 bhp from a 4.6-litre V8 engine, custom 20-inch wheels and Lamborghini-styled scissor doors. It has black and red two tone leather seats with red interior lighting and two nitrous oxide tanks with purge capabilities to provide the smoke-filled red mist.

Batman’s Lamborghinis

In the Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, Bruce Wayne tears around Gotham City in three different Lamborghinis. In Batman Begins, the drives a Murcielago Roadster. In The Dark Knight he drives and crashes a Murcielago LP640. In Spanish, the Murcielago means bat which seems rather fitting for Bruce Wayne. In The Dark Knight Rises, Bruce Wayne upgrades to the newer Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, which is promptly stolen by Catwomen. It is safe to say that Bruce Wayne loves the bonkers speedsters that Lamborghini continues to offer.

New Ghost Rider – Hell Charger

With the relaunch of the Ghost Rider series of comic books, the creators wanted to go a slightly different route away from the stunt motorcyclist turned Spirit of Vengeance. They took the likeness of former One Direction singer, Zayn Malik and created a mechanic who drove a 1969 Dodge Charger that was possessed by a spirit and transformed him into the new Ghost Rider and the car in the Hell Charger.

Black Widow’s Vette

In Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, Black Widow briefly appears in a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and damn is she a beauty… the car I mean. The Corvette Stingray comes with a 6.2-Litre V8 engine, which develops 455 bhp and it has a seven-speed manual gearbox. It may have a very brief scene at the beginning of the film, but it makes an incredible impact all the same.

Blade – Dodge Charger

Before the film hit cinemas, there had been no car for Blade in the comics. But with the film incarnation, Blade was given a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T with a 383 Magnum engine and several toggle switches that activate the vampire-melting UV light and a nitrous oxide injection. Also if he was attacked by pesky vampires, there is a holster for a shotgun loaded with garlic filled, silver bullets.

Tony Stark’s Garage

Tony Stark is clearly a Car Head. In Iron Man 2, he jumps in a Stark Industries open wheeled Formula 1-eske car to race in the Monaco Grand Prix. He appeared to be doing rather well in the blue and white speed machine before Whiplash stepped out onto the track and ruined everything… including a rather nice Rolls-Royce Phantom.

In his underground garage/workshop, Tony also has some of the most beautiful and rarest cars ever created. Like Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark has his signature car, the Audi R8 varieties through the Iron Man Trilogy and more recently in Captain America 3: Civil War.

Also in his garage, he had a Ford Flathead Roadster from 1932. The legendary Shelby Cobra from 1967 that can hit 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. There was the rare but great looking Saleen S7 in bright orange. Despite only being a prototype at the time of the first film, Stark owns a Tesla Roadster.

If you were curious about which superhero is the biggest car head, then Tony Stark is your man. His car collection is the envy of other heroes and normal folks alike.
