Desmo Hyper-Adventure: The 2024 Ducati Multistrada V4 RS

‘Choose it all,’
Ducati boasts about the 2024 Multistrada V4 RS model, but keen eyes will note the forged 17-inch alloys, Pirelli Corsa rubber and sportier ergonomics as a diversion from the model’s ‘many roads’ roots. Like the current Pike’s Peak Multi, it’s a mix of pavement prowess and touring ability that inspires the Multistrada V4 RS, taken to all-new heights with the 180 hp Desmosedici engine from Panigale.

The hyper-adventure segment is heating up for 2024, and Ducati’s V4 RS isn’t holding any punches. In place of the standard 170 hp V4 Granturismo mill, this exclusive RS Multi makes use of Ducati’s Moto-GP-derived 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale engine. Good for 180 hp with Euro 5+ homologation, the Desmo V4 has been tuned for aggressive, but usable acceleration on the street and limited to 13,500 rpm.

But don’t think for a second that they’ve hamstrung it, though, as many go-fast goodies from the Panigale and Streetfighter models are found on the V4 RS. The sportier air filter system comes straight from the SP2 Panigale, as does the billet aluminum dry clutch assembly and quick shifter. Rounding out the installation is a specially designed exhaust system with an Akrapovič silencer, promising a near superbike soundtrack at high rpm.

The Desmo engine serves as a stressed member in the chassis, and Ducati has gone to great lengths to lighten and upgrade the platform for more aggressive riding. The new aluminum monocoque frame features a more sporty 25.75-degree steering head and a new titanium subframe. While we’re still waiting on final figures, weight savings in the chassis and mechanicals are rumored to be nearly 20 pounds.

Like the Pike’s Peak model, the V4 RS wears Marchesini 17-inch forged aluminum wheels on both ends, shod in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires. Ducati has also moved the pegs higher and further back to improve lean angle, and the handlebar is now rigidly fixed to the triple clamp for a sharper feel.

Suspension is trick on the V4 RS as well, consisting of fully adjustable Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 event-based hardware, which automatically adjusts to your riding style. Twin Brembo Stylema 4-piston calipers clamp down on 330 mm radial discs up front, and Bosch-Brembo corning ABS keeps the whole system in check.

As you’d expect from a flagship Ducati product, the V4 RS is fit with all the latest tech, including every three-letter acronym imaginable. There’s adaptive cruise, blind-spot detection, traction control, wheelie control and more. Along with all the acronyms, four riding modes and an additional four power modes are accessed through a 6.5-inch color TFT display.

Loaded with top-tier components and the heart of a track star, it comes as no surprise the V4 RS will set you back a whopping $37,995. Chalk it up as the price to pay for having your cake and eating it too, or as Ducati puts it, choosing it all.
