BMW Motorrad’s Vision DC Roadster concept

Over many decades, BMW has constantly upgraded and modernised the iconic twin-cylinder boxer motorcycle engine. Indeed, only a mass shift to electrification is likely to cause its eventual demise.

However, when that happens, a key visual signature will be lost. Hence the Vision DC Roadster, a pure-electric concept that attempts to mimic the look of a boxer-powered bike.

The effect actually works quite well, because the eye is immediately drawn to a pair of side protrusions with integrated fans. Their role is to provide cooling for a centrally-mounted battery pack which sits within an aluminium frame. The compact electric motor lies beneath, connected directly to a shaft drive.

A relatively long wheelbase, low-set handlebars and the almost complete absence of a tail unit result in a very distinctive profile. Of course, there’s no need for a fuel tank, so a tubular structure is fitted instead.

Performance, range and recharging times all remain mysteries though, as BMW hasn’t disclosed any technical data.
