Riding on the success of the original CTR, fondly nicknamed “Yellowbird”, Alois Ruf set about to create the next iteration of the famed Porsche-based supercar. The result was the RUF CTR2 which used a Type 993 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6-litre flat six engine. While the car offered by RUF to customers produced 520bhp and 685Nm of torque, this car here is the first “Sport” prototype produced by the Pfaffenhausen based manufacturer.

The 1997 RUF CTR2 Sport Prototype was built specifically to compete at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and thus given an extra boost of power. Partaking in the Open Class category of the event in 1997, the RUF CTR2 Sport Prototype pushed out 702bhp, making it the most powerful CTR2 ever built. Coupled with RUF’s own suspension system, bigger brakes, lightweight kevlar body and an integrated roll cage, two CTR2 Sport Prototypes entered the 11th edition of the internationally famous hill climb race. This particular car that is set to go on auction at Bonhams Grand Palais auction on February 7, 2019 was piloted to second place by Steve Beddor. After its many successful stints in various racing events over the years, the car was then converted to road legal specification by RUF by adding an extra silencer with the car now producing 600bhp. Considering the CTR2 weight around 1,350kg, this CTR2 Sport Prototype, we reckon, is still going to be a cracker of a machine that would run equal, if not faster to some of the current generation supercars.
