NASCAR: Suárez wins three-wide photo finish in Atlanta

0.003s.

Three. Thousandths. Of a second.

That was the margin of victory for Daniel Suárez at the end of the most chaotic Atlanta spring race NASCAR has ever had. With a record 14-cars being caught up in “The Big One” on lap 2 – including eventual race winner Suárez – it was easier to list the cars NOT involved in an incident than who was.

Coming to the line on the final lap, Suárez made a move from 3rd to the outside of leader Ryan Blaney and 2nd place Kyle Busch and caught the momentum out of turn four to bring them three-wide at the line. With the Finish too close to call, NASCAR officials turned to their high-speed finish cameras as well as the official Fox Sports broadcast to determine that Daniel Suárez was the winner – his second ever in the Cup Series.

Several championship contenders had their days hampered by incidents including Daytona 500 winner, William Byron, who was collected in a spin by polesitter, Michael McDowell, during the second stage of the race. Byron would go on to finish 17th while McDowell would recover for an 8th place finish.

Blaney’s teammate, Austin Cindric went on to finish 4th after leading for much of the 3rd stage and Bubba Wallace doubled down to finish 5th for his second top 5 finish in a row to start 2024.

Re-watch the highlights from Atlanta below and buckle up for the 3rd round of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada for the Pennzoil 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Race action begins on Sunday, March 3rd at 3:30pm ET on Fox or streaming on Fox Sports online.
