The atmosphere of the Rally van Haspengouw

The Haspengouw Rally is here!

The opening race of the Kroon-Oil Belgian Rally Championship Division 2 will see a strong field of participants at the start on Saturday, February 24. 20 teams have registered in the top class. Last minute, the organization also received the registration of Gino Bux with a Hyundai i20 N Rally2 and of John Wartique, who will again defend his chances with the Volkswagen Polo GTi Rally2.

No fewer than 8 drivers have opted for a Citroën C3 Rally2, the car that dominated the Belgian championship over the past 2 seasons with Stéphane Lefebvre and Maxime Potty. The latter, as reigning champion with starting number 1, leads the field. The other Citroën drivers are Vincent Verschueren, Adrian Fernémont, Niels Reynvoet, Bjorn Syx, Emile Breittmayer, Jimmy D’hondt and Sébastien Incardona.

They are competing against 6 Skoda Fabias, with the main candidate for victory being Jos Verstappen in his Fabia RS. His comrade Richard Pex also switches to a Skoda. Tom Boonen also has the latest Fabia RS. The other Skoda drivers are Thibaud Mazuin, the Dane Jan Petersen and Fred Miclotte.

Three examples of the Hyundai i20 N Rally2 will be at the start, starring vice champion Cédric Cherain. BMA’s second Hyundai is used by Bastien Rouard. A surprise is the switch of Gino Bux and Steven Spittaels to a Hyundai i20 N Rally2.

John Wartique remains loyal to the Volkswagen Polo GTi Rally2 with which he ended the season last year. Kurt Boone is the only one to defend the colors of Ford with a Fiesta Rally2 and the Austrian Enrico Windrisch will present his Audi A1 Rally2 kit to the Belgian fans.

We also note a surprising entry in the GT category, because Christophe Kerckhove exchanges his Historic Porsche for an Alpine A110 RGT. He will compete with the Porsches of Glenn Janssens, Henri Schmelcher and… local specialist Kris Princen.

In short, a lot of beautiful things to enjoy next weekend during the stages of the Rally van Haspengouw!
