Michelin Le Mans Cup from Paul Ricard in photo

A belated treat today as we feel it is too long between Michelin Le Mans Cup races, so we will bring you this gallery from the 2nd round at Paul Ricard, with thanks to John Stevens!

The race in a nutshell

The no91 Herberth Motorsport Porsche of Robert Renauer and Ralf Bohn was the first car in the GT3 class across the line on the German teams Michelin Le Mans Cup debut after starting from the back of the grid.

The no91 finished ahead of the sister no92 Herberth Motorsport run Porsche to give the team a 1-2 finish, with the no8 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Rino Mastronardi and Logan Sargeant taking the final podium spot to secure maximum championship points in France.

However, the no91 Porsche was given a 1 lap and 32 second penalty after the race because the driving time for Robert Renauer was not respected (Stewards Decision no12) and this dropped the car down to 6th.

GT3

  1. The 7 car GT3 entry was headed by Rino Mastronardi in the no8 Iron Lynx Ferrari.
  2. The no91 Herberth Motorsport Porsche had to start the race at the back of the grid due to the Diffuser Height being incorrect after qualifying. By T4 on the opening lap the no91 Porsche, with Ralf Bohn at the wheel, was up to second in class.
  3. The top three cars, the no8 Ferrari, the no91 Porsche and the no2 Pzoberer Zürichsee by TFT Porsche of Nicolas Leutwiler, were separated by just 1.1 seconds. The two Porsches were battling for second which allowed the Ferrari to open up a 5 second lead by Lap 10 when the Safety Car was deployed.
  4. At the restart it was the no2 Porsche that was in second place and immediately challenged Mastronardi in the Ferrari for the lead, but the Italian held the position.
  5. At the mid race pitstops the order was shuffled thanks to the change to the various strategies during the earlier Safety Car period. The no61 AF Corse Ferrari of Stephane Tribaudini was running well up the order and leading GT3 for several laps before coming into the pits.
  6. The two Herberth Motorsport Porsches were now running 1-2 as Logan Sargeant in the no8 Ferrari closed the gap to the second place no92 Porsche of Alfred Renauer.
  7. The no2 Pzoberer Zürichsee by TFT Porsche of the highly experienced Wolf Henzler was being chased hard by the no9 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Doriane Pin, the young French driver pushing the German hard before finally making the pass towards the end of the race.
  8. Robert Renauer in the no91 Porsche started to pull away of the battle for second as the no92 Porsche and no8 Ferrari went toe to toe for several laps, with Alfred Renauer using every trick in the book to keep Sargeant, in his first GT3 race, at bay.
  9. At the end of the race the no91 Porsche took the chequered flag one lap ahead of the no92 Porsche, with the no8 Ferrari in third just 0.864s behind.
  10. The no91 Porsche was given a post race penalty because Robert Renauer’s driving time was just 52:32.081 instead of the 55:00.000 required in the regulations (Stewards Decision no12).The penalty of 1 lap and 32 seconds dropped the no91 Porsche to 6th and promoted the no92 Porsche to 1st position
  11. Because the Herberth Motorsport Porsches were race by race entries, the 25 championship points go to the no8 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Rino Mastronardi and Logan Sargeant, with 18 for the no9 Iron Lynx 488 of Doriane Pin and Sarah Bovy, the female crew finishing just 1.1 seconds ahead of the no2 Porsche of Wolf Henzler and Nicolas Leutwiler, who gain 15 points.
