70th Grand Prix Grid Key-Match-Ups

Formula 1's 70th Grand Prix weekend kicks off tomorrow with a feature race. Let's take a look at the battles and bruises that are likely to outline tomorrow's race.

3. Nico Hulkenburg (Racing Point) vs. 4. Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

In at our most valuable slot is the never-ending battle between Nico and a podium. In putting himself in P3, he may have shot up the ranks for a seat next year, but all eyes will be on Hulkenburg for what could be his last shot at a podium drive.

1. Valterri Bottas (Mercedes F1) vs. 2. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes F1)

Going slightly out of order, we'd just like to acknowledge the massive step Valterri Bottas has taken towards a title fight this weekend. While on points this championship seems to be already slipping out of his hands, a good P1 with reliability worries for Lewis Hamilton could spark the competition into life. Watch those red-striped Pirellis tomorrow.

5. Ricciardo (Renault F1) vs. 6. Lance Stroll (Racing Point) vs. 7. Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri Racing)

Coming in hot right after the pack at the front are a smattering of midfield teams. Far from the 2 by 2 race that we often see at the front in Formula One, Renault will look to defend their honor on-track against the recently-protested Racing Point car. Waiting in the wings will be Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc however, and any slip up will prove costly for the race behind the race.

12. Sebastian Vettel (Scuderia Ferrari) vs. 13. Carlos Sainz (McLaren F1)

Quick shout-out to our non-Q3 finishers! Future Ferrari seat-swappers Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz look set to both tumble up and down the field depending on how you look at it. Fast cars behind include Daniil Kyvat of Alphatauri, and above them Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly might look to slip down. Either way, their contrasting fates will make for an interesting set of duels around the first lap of the race.

As always, thanks for reading!
