A Kawasaki Z series inspired BMW, what? When I heard that I was speechless, that was until I saw Vtr Customs latest build. VTR Customs come onto the scene in 2016 with an incredible build that won multiple awards internationally. This BMW R 1200R Racer I’m sure will win them even more. This bike, being inspired by the Kawasaki Z’s is truly a unique work of art.
Dani Weidmann of VTR Customs wanted that distinctive look of Kawasaki Z’s. The design is all in the lines of the bodywork. Kawasaki Z models had very distinctive square styled body lines. The bodywork took a lot of brainstorming and design. Most notably are the custom made airbox and intake. Stock R1200 have a unique airbox and tank design that did not play into the design needed. Dani hand crafted the tank and custom airboxes to closely mimic the Kawasaki Styling. Also =, we love the Kawasaki inspired tail section that is a much narrower version.
Moving onto the suspension and wheels, Dani wanted that classic road racer look. An incredible pair of Kineo spoke wheels in the front and back are wrapped with a set of Bridgestone race slicks. To keep that rubber on the road is an Ohlins rear shocks and upgraded internals in the front forks. What’s all that traction if you can’t stop? Well the Brembo brakes are hooked up to a Magura HC3 Billet master cylinder and stainless braided lines.
To finish the bike off, Dani went with an Akrapovic header and Unit Garage exhaust system that is said to create a flame show when quick shifting. Finally, the classic Kawasaki Z1000 color and paint scheme was laid down. I don’t know about you, but this thing just make me want to go out and tear up the pavement.
