4 Steps to Get Your Chance In A Competitive Industry

If you’re searching for a new career and are tired of the same old stuff sitting at a desk, answering emails, and being watched over by your boss, perhaps it’s time to look at a new Industry altogether. If the everyday business has bored you to tears, more competitive industries are always appealing. But, there’s a reason why these industries are so competitive. Everyone wants to make a name for themselves and they’ll happily climb over you to get what they want. So, how can you get your chance? Here are four steps to consider.

Just Do Something

Experience is one of the most useful tools to help you get your chance in a Competitive Industry, but you don’t need to wait around to find a paying job. Many successful people have gotten their big break by just doing something. Whether you’re making music, writing scripts, or hosting shows, this gives you the chance to shoes off your skills.

If you want it enough, you can find the time to create and do it. If you’re looking for a job in radio, free DJ jingles can help you build your portfolio. The same goes for writing, acting, singing, or performing, as it helps you hone your craft and prove to the people who matter that you’re worth hiring.

Get to Know People

The adage of who you know rather than what you know is never more true than in a competitive industry. Although you want to feel you’ve earned it and don’t want a free ride, you can still make the most of your contacts, even if they aren’t major players.

Anyone will tell you that networking in the film industry is the chance for you to get the big break you need. Don’t be afraid to get your name and face out there, introduce yourself, and make sure they remember you (for the right reasons, obviously).

Attend the Right Events

Similarly, you can look out for events to attend. You won’t get into those VIP industry parties, at least not as a guest, but you can search around for open auditions and other opportunities that give you the chance to meet others and shoes off your skills. Keep a close eye on what’s going on in your area and grab any opportunity you find.

Accept That You’ll Need to Pay Your Dues

The idea of paying your dues always puts people off. They don’t want to labour and do grunt work, not because they don’t want to work at all, but because they want to do what they envision, and picking up coffee orders is not that.

Still, starting at the bottom can be an exceptional learning experience and if you do one job well, there’s a chance for promotion. The more you prove yourself, the closer you’ll get to your dream, so don’t turn your nose up at work you feel is beneath you, because it isn’t.

Your Chance

It can feel like your chance will never come, but that’s only true if you don’t do anything. You can do all the wishing and hoping you like, but nothing will happen unless you get out there to make an effort. These steps won’t guarantee you get your chance, but they will raise the possibility dramatically, giving you every opportunity to take charge of your career.
