What I’m Listening to // September

This year is just getting even better for releases, we’ve already had Kanye, Drake, Anderson Paak, Kano, Kendrick Lamar, Kaytranada, Schoolboy Q and Skepta earlier on in the year, and that’s just to name a few.

With Frank Ocean’s long awaited Album recently just dropped, I thought this would be the only thing I’d listen to for a while, but in the recent weeks we’ve also been treated to new Sampha tunes, a Vince Staples EP and Isaiah Rashad’s debut album. With that in mind, I thought i’d let you guys know what i’m currently listening to, and i’ve put these in to a Spotify playlist for you to enjoy.

1. Isaiah Rashad – Wat’s Wrong (feat. Zacari & Kendrick Lamar)

To be fair I probably could have put the whole Isaiah Rashad album on here, it’s my main sound since it’s drop last Friday. Along with Kendrick Lamar, the 2 TDE artists have teamed up for this stand out, mellow track. Highly recommend downloading the whole album though

2. Vince Staples – Loco (feat. Kilo Kish)

I’d not listened to much Vince Staples much before the recent EP, and missed out on a few of his UK gigs recently, but after a couple of listens it’s big! This is the stand out track so worthy of being in this playlist.

3. Sampha – Blood On Me

I’ve not been this excited for an album since Frank Ocean (not on Spotify btw, that’s why it’s missing here). Sampha keeps dropping tunes out of nowhere and this is just as good as his last “Timmy’s Prayer”, which makes for a 10/10 album if these releases are anything to go by.

4. GoldLink – Fall In Love (feat. Ciscero)

Been following GoldLink for a while now and caught him in Manchester this summer. Produced by Kaytranada on this one (that trademark sound), this is such a summer tune.

5. Action Bronson – Descendant of the Stars

Nice to see Bronson take some time out of making food (F*ck That’s Delicious is good though). He just flows so well with every track and this is no different.

6. Thundercat – Bus In These Streets

Something completely different to the rest on here, but another Thundercat track that follows on from the sound he brought to Kendrick’s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’, well worth a listen and i’m looking forward to more.

7. SG Lewis – Gone (feat. Bishop Nehru)

I’ve caught SG Lewis quite a few times with him being a resident in Liverpool, and have followed Bishop Nehru since his track with Disclosure, so this collaboration is right up my street.

8. Tom Misch – I Wish

Such a nice track this, and love this guys voice. Enough said really.

9. DJ Snake – Future Pt. 2 (feat. Bipolar Sunshine)

I was 50/50 on the recent album, there’s some nice tracks but most of them have that terrible trap sound coming from America, but another collab with Bipolar Sunshine is a winner and the strand out track from the album for me.

10. Stormzy – Standard

New Stormzy track can only be a winner really, the guys everywhere right now, even on the big screen. Lad.

11. Do It 4 U – Machinedrum (feat. Dawn Richard)

Everything Machinedrum produces I’ve been enjoying lately. Listen to this right to the end for a nice surprise.

12. James Blake – Timeless (feat. Vince Staples)

How can you not like James Blake? Such a nice sound on this one and with the addition of Vince Staples vocals just makes it for me.

13. DJ Khaled – Nas Album Done (feat. Nas)

If the lyrics are true and Nas held off finishing his album to work with DJ Khaled on this one then I can’t wait for what’s to comefrom the guy, album coming this year fingers crossed.

14. Alan Fitzpatrick – We Do What We Want

Ok, so this one doesn’t really fit in with the rest on this playlist but it’s an absolute banger and has got me excited for the Autumn/Winter club nights ahead. Big techno anthem to finish us off.
