Monocle is famous for producing some of the most engaging and well designed books and magazines available, and the Kyoto Travel Guide is no different.
The Kyoto Travel Guide is the 27th addition to the Monocle travel guide series, and gives a unique perspective on Japan’s cultural capital. Monocle writes these guides with the aim of making you feel like a local rather than a tourist; providing you with restaurants off the beaten path, hidden cocktail bars, as well as the best places to stay while you’re there.
The name Kyoto means “Capital City”, and was the former capital of Japan until 1868. This means that the capital during Japan’s feudal period (the time of Ninja and Samurai) was located at Kyoto, and as a result the city is very historic. This guide by Monocle aims to introduce you to this ancient city, whether you are staying in a traditional ryokan (Japanese-style inn), participating in a tea ceremony, or eating some of the local delicacies.
The Monocle Travel Guide: Kyoto sells for £12, and is available from the Monocle website here.
