Looking For an Exotic Place To Go: Try Visiting Costa Rica

We got another great location for you travel buffs to try, Costa Rica can be one of the best places in the world to visit. Check out this quick article on the gorgeous location and exactly what you can do when you get there.

Costa Rica is a rugged, rainforested Central American country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. Though its capital, San Jose, is home to cultural institutions like the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, Costa Rica is known for its beaches, volcanoes, and biodiversity. Roughly a quarter of its area is made up of protected jungle, teeming with wildlife including spider monkeys and quetzal birds.

Things To Do: Tortuguero National Park

Parque Nacional Tortuguero is a protected wilderness area on Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast. Its beaches are famous nesting grounds for sea turtles, including endangered green turtles. The park’s freshwater creeks and lagoons, which can be navigated by boat or canoe, shelter spectacled caimans and river turtles. The surrounding dense rainforest is also rich with wildlife, from monkeys to many bird species.

Arenal Volcano

Arenal Volcano (Spanish: Volcán Arenal) is an active andesitic stratovolcano in north-western Costa Rica around 90 km northwest of San José, in the province of Alajuela, canton of San Carlos, and district of La Fortuna. The Arenal volcano measures at least 1,633 metres (5,358 ft) high. It is conically shaped with a crater 140 metres (460 ft) in diameter. Geologically, Arenal is considered a young volcano and it is estimated to be less than 7,500 years old. It is also known as “Pan de Azúcar”, “Canaste”, “Volcan Costa Rica”, “Volcan Río Frío” or “Guatusos Peak”.

The volcano was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacón. Due to the eruption three more craters were created on the western flanks but only one of them still exists today. Since 2010, Arenal has been dormant.

Discovery Costa Rica: Adventure Park

Discovery Communications Inc. has announced that it will license its name for a $1 billion eco-tourism park in Costa Rica. President Luis Guillermo Solís confirmed the news on a Facebook post, and said the 810-hectare adventure park will be located in the province of Guanacaste.

Discovery Costa Rica is scheduled to open in late 2020, some 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Liberia, according to a news statement. The park will include outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking, scuba diving and other pursuits across four locations at beaches, parks and volcanoes. All of the park’s activities will focus on biodiversity and conservation, the statement said. Richard Wirthlin, chairman of investor relations at Sun Latin America, the developer leading the project, said the facility will also include a water park, along with Discovery-branded hotels and restaurants.
