Nature's Balancing Act
Nature's Software Coding: God or Nature (your choice) has done some incredible programming to regulate various forms of life on our planet. I agree with Dr. Harold Katcher's analysis. He has methodically debunked the wear and tear theory of Aging - that we age because the wear and tear accumulates to a point where we die. He has given evidence that aging is also one of the programs coded in us by nature just like the program that makes multiple changes that help us grow from a baby to an adult. The programming is anchored around a biological clock which triggers release of certain chemical signals which direct our stems cells and tissues receiving the signals to grow or to allow aging to occur. This suggests that vast majority of our anti-aging research has been moving in the wrong direction: trying to find various effects of aging and trying to individually inhibit them or reverse them. This has not led to any major success as we are not curing the cause of aging but only the effects. Dr. Katcher suggests HPE heterochronic plasma exchange which is based on Parabiosis covered as 1 of 2 proven methods to reverse or slow down aging in my last blog post as a remedy for the cause of aging. So Nature would have programmed death at various intervals for different Species to fulfill an evolutionary function.
I wanted to add some thoughts and observations over and above this platform. It seems that not only are we pre-programmed to reach certain stages of life and die we all as a whole also seem to be networked in some way by nature - connected at some level as a whole living planet. Nature seems to be monitoring a balancing act which is critical for the survival of life on this planet. When any factors or species crosses a threshold of disruption of this balance Nature network grid ripples back to correct it. One recent discovery that dinosaurs were not made extinct by a comet hitting Earth or a giant volcanic eruption but by its own multiplication can be a case in point. In 170 million years they dominated the Earth to such an extent that they could multiply and proliferate way beyond the other species. They ate up large chunks of vegetation that does a major act of consuming carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Lack of vegetation also reduces rain fall. That combined with the copious amounts of methane released by billions of dinosaurs many having reached huge sizes has been calculated by scientists at Liverpool John Moores University to have caused global warming, climate breaking point and climate change. This theory is more plausible as a cause for Dinosaur extinction as the more popular versions would have caused complete extinction of all species - whereas amongst birds we do have some species that did survive. So Nature balanced the imbalance by creating an extinction event. It can be also considered as self healing of a fast spreading cancer. Nature it seems has all kinds of weapons at its disposal: deadly viruses, massive volcanoes, climate change, flip of the magnetic poles, etc.
Another example that can be considered for Nature being plugged into all its constituents is sex ratio amongst species. Our studies have revealed that determination of which chromosome leads to a male or female is random and by chance as each has an equal opportunity. But if you consider law of probability every generation or region should display random mix of genders so in one generation it should go to 130 males to 100 females and next generation it can go to 120 females to 100 males. Since this is 1 or 0 kind of outcome. For example on a roulette table we have red and black also 1 of 2 outcomes which both have an equal chance to come but if one tabulates the outcomes on each day over a year there should be red days and black days and red years and black years with minor or major domination combinations over the other. Where as in species to balance the two genders to ensure maximum reproduction there is an almost exact outcome year after year for may be millions of years. Such exact outcome should not be possible if it is random and by chance as observed in births by each of us. One thesis suggested by scientists is that clans producing more males continue to do so in future generations as well and so if they dominate over clans producing more females in a generation all females will be able to reproduce whereas all males will not be able to so according to this theory the imbalance of one generation is corrected in the next. I am not convinced because the gender uniformity is even across generations and no significant swings are observed over all. I request any reader who is a mathematician to please create an equation on law of probability that will prove that such an even outcome over millions of years across species is not possible when males and females are born randomly and by chance. There would be swings in either direction. Such a mathematical equation will prove that Nature is in some way plugged into all living things to regulate even at the macro level.
If this is indeed proved then it is one more important warning to humans as a race not to let their individual greed disrupt the balance of Nature otherwise soon it will lash out to correct the imbalance much to our detriment.
This kind of 'thinking' or intelligence displayed by Nature in programming us for defined cycles including death and creating a regulatory grid of all living things which auto-corrects any disruptions or causes of disruptions is bewildering to observe. Then one wonders whether such equilibrium and interconenction is also observable in the Universe as a whole.
