What Is Oxiracetam

Tags: oxiracetam

Just like aniracetam and piracetam, Oxiracetam is a member of the racetam family of nootropic supplements, which are designed to increase your clarity of thought, ability to focus, and the ability of your brain to store and recall information. Like all racetams, oxiracetam is a synthetic (man-made) nootropic and isn’t able to be utilized through a simple change in diet. Unlike most other racetams, however, oxiracetam is popular because of it’s bioavailability (your bodies ability to utilize it, once it has been ingested). This bioavailability is reported to be around 75%, which is highly unusual for any oral supplement. oxiracetam is slightly more potent than piracetam (two to three times) in the same dose and is easily dissolvable in water and is virtually tasteless(for those of you worried about that!).

What Does It Do?

Like all nootropics, the main goal of taking oxiracetam is to increase your ability to focus, learn, and recall information. oxiracetam does this exceptionally well. Interestingly, oxiracetam seems to impact the left, or logical, brain a bit more than the right, or creative, brain, which makes it an excellent choice for those who need a bit of help grasping more logic-oriented concepts, such as math. oxiracetam is also said to have a mildly stimulating effect, similar to caffeine, which helps to give you that extra little push of motivation in addition to its other benefits.

Both human and animal studies of oxiracetam have demonstrated its positive effects on those with ADHD and mild dementia, with relatively “small” doses resulting in a dramatic increase of test scores related to logical performance, attention, and spatial awareness. Additional animal testing has revealed that it may also be beneficial for spatial learning. So if you always forget where you leave your keys… there may be some hope for you yet!

What Dose Should I take?

While oxiracetam’s effects are most noticeable when it reaches peak effectiveness in your body one to three hours after dosing, it does impact your system for about 8 hours. Dosing with oxiracetam twice per day should do the trick. As far as dose size is concerned, 800-2400mg per serving is the norm, and most studies followed similar, twice-daily dosages.

Because there is such a huge variance in “normal” dosage, we strongly suggest you start on the low end and work your way up only if you need to (and as always, check with your doctor!). As with all racetams, the most commonly reported side effects are headaches (which can almost always be taken care of by supplementing with a choline source) and irritability (people not letting you do what you want to do REALLY bugs you).

Interested in adding oxiracetam to your regimen, but not sure where to start? Tried an oxiracetam regimen and want to share your experience? Let us know in the comments section below.
