May 14, Handling PTSD and Anxiety without Kratom

PTSD, as many sufferers know, responds very well to Kratom. It is easy to see how kratom can do this, for those who are already familiar with kratom -- it can be a calming herb, while subtly kicking up our mental energy up enough to take a more positive and objective view of our life. I have no experience of Ptsd, so it is difficult to imagine whether or not any combination of Herbs can exactly replace kratom, but I would look to a trained herbalist for guidance.
So, today I have a list of herbs that were recommended by Justin Marcus Volland, the herbalist at Meridian Botanicals. I will also include a list he gave me of herbs that can be used to calm Anxiety.
For PTSD, Justin recommends: Serenity Grove medicated tea, St. John's wort, Gotu kola, Bacopa monneiri, Holy basil (all taken for extended month+ period, daily).
I have heard good things about Bacopa monnieri and Holy Basil. I would look each of them up in Wikipedia to get some sense of their traditional uses and the evidence provided in modern research as to their effectiveness.
Although Meridian Botanical's prices are very reasonable, it still helps to buy carefully herbs that seem to offer the benefits you are seeking. I'd do some research, especially if your budget is limited.
Herbs recommended for Anxiety: skullcap, St. John's wort (contraindicated with SSRIs), kava, ashwagandha, anxiolya tinctured elixir
Ashwagandha is a highly recommended herb for health and one I'm familiar with. Kava I find very relaxing.
Here is what www.herbal-supplement-resource.com says, in part, about skullcap: "This plant is also a nervine with sedative qualities and is helpful in the treatment of many nervous conditions such as epilepsy, hysteria, anxiety, delirium tremens and as a remedy for panic attacks. It has also been found useful in treating symptoms of withdrawal from barbiturates and tranquilizers."
They also say it is good for inducing sleep -- something many of us have a hard time with.
Meridian's "anxiolya tinctured elixir" also sounds promising for fast relief of anxiety, perhaps PTSD, and panic attacks.
Go to Meridian Botanicals to find these fine herbs, blends, and tinctures.
