CareFusion demonstrated several new Medication Management systems at the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference. The company’s various medical technologies were displayed at the pharmacy, patient room, nursing station, operating room, and in the ambulatory care simulation showcases within the Intelligent Health Pavilion.

The pharmacy showcase featured CareFusion’s Pyxis Pharmogistics® software and Pyxis® IV system for optimized inventory management and IV compounding. The Pyxis® ES Link Track and Deliver module demonstrated its ability to track and prioritize medication delivery. The Alaris® Viewer Suite for Infusion Viewer allowed users to view administered infusions throughout the health system in real-time.
The patient room simulations included new technology such as the Alaris® System and the Alaris® Connectivity Service for Asset Management. The Alaris® System displayed its infusion electronic medical record (EMR) interoperability in the pediatric intensive care unit showcase by demonstrating how clinicians could pre-populate infusion parameters into the Alaris® Pump and Syringe modules straight from the EMR system. The Alaris® Connectivity Service for Asset Management technology was integrated with the Stanley Healthcare/AeroScout asset management solution to locate each Alaris System and provide utilization history for the full fleet of infusion system devices.
The Pyxis® Anesthesia ES system was used with Kit Check’s Anesthesia Check application at the operating room simulation to demonstrate the management and tracking of anesthesia medication, verification of the medication before use, and the electronic documentation provided for controlled substance waste.
The Pyxis® Mini system was featured in the ambulatory care showcase. The compact medication management system demonstrated its capability to integrate with the hospital’s IT infrastructure to dispense medication and prevent errors within a non-acute ambulatory setting.
