Today a whopping 120,000 Nursing jobs remain unfilled. And that number is expected to rise as Baby Boomers, who make up a quarter of the U.S. population, reach retirement age. By 2029, the Census Bureau expects the number of retirement age Americans to rise by nearly 30 million – a 73% increase!

To meet the rising demand for healthcare services from this population, the Bureau of Labor estimates that more than a million nurses will be needed within the next few years. While the Nursing Shortage certainly isn’t a new problem, it’s quickly shaping into one of the biggest obstacles for medical practices in the 21^st century.

Hiring nurses during a shortage

While these numbers can be hard to digest, the most obvious way that the Growing Nursing Shortage will impact employers is that they will need to understand the needs of millennial nurses as they join the workforce. By satisfying the needs of these employees, medical practices have better odds of attracting qualified nurses and weathering this nursing shortage.
