Most dental Insurance plans follow the calendar year, so knowing details about your insurance benefits is now more important than ever.

As the year comes to a close, you may be at risk of losing your unused dental benefits. You paid the insurance company for your coverage in exchange that they provide reimbursement in accordance with your plan.  If you don’t use all of the funds available to you, the excess money goes back to the insurance company.  The unused portion isn’t refunded to you, nor does it roll into 2020.

What You Need to Know About Your Expiring Benefits

• If your employer subsidizes your dental plan, they control the benefits allotted to you each year. As the cost of health care rises, many companies will reduce the benefits available to you in the next enrollment period.
• If you’ve already used some of your insurance this year, chances are you paid your annual deductible. Putting off treatment until next year means you will pay for the deductible again, creating more out-of-pocket expenses.
• If you maintain your yearly preventive care, we can identify small problems before they become a major issue that requires expensive treatment. If we’ve expressed concerns about your oral health, this is a perfect time to seek treatment.  We still have appointments available in 2019.
