Oct 11, Using a Macrobiotic Diet to Control Diabetes Symptoms

Tags: diet food grains

There are many ways of eating that will help you turn around diabetes symptoms. I don't want to get into an argument about which one is best -- I just throw this one out for your consideration because it has been proven to help restore insulin sensitivity and can be followed with basic foods, no special supplements to buy.
This VIDEO, by Dr. Greger, shows the science that demonstrates the efficacy of the macrobiotic diet.
There are a couple things I will suggest to make this diet even healthier. One is to avoid gluten-bearing grains -- wheat, barley, rye, and oats -- to maximize your absorption of nutrients. It is also important to eat organically-grown grains to avoid the glyphosate sprayed commonly in the U.S. on non-organic grains and produce. And, finally, avoid vegetable oils in cooking, salad dressings, etc., because they tend to be pro-inflammatory.
This is not to say you can't ever eat in a restaurant or eat outside this diet again. It's just a good guide to helping your body get a lot of steamed fresh vegetables, whole-grain rice and other whole grains, beans, nuts, and small amounts of eggs and meats, if you wish, as a basis to support your health.
Generally, dairy products are not included in this regimen. If you choose to follow this style of eating, you are free to make exceptions, but I think you'll find you have better success at reducing diabetic symptoms by generally avoiding milk products, rather than "making the exception the rule."
Cutting out sweets (except for fresh fruit) and vegetable oils and dairy -- and eating mostly plant-based foods will go a long way to bringing your blood sugars back into the normal range. Add-ons such as a good quality supplement program that supplies chromium, vanadium, and other essential nutrients will help you to feel well-satisfied and not craving foods outside the recommended foods.
