Sep 16, What Holds Us Back from the Health We Deserve?

The hardest thing I had to learn as I tried to control my attraction to foods that were leading me into Diabetes, was that the dietary habits I had learned as a child were what I had to overcome. I think this is true of most disease states. We're not born Type-2 Diabetic, it is a Habit we pick up and develop with the Food preferences we acquire.
Oh, we may have some genetic tendencies that attract us to sugars and quick-release carbs, but we have the choice of whether or not to give in to the habit or find an herb and/or a combination of minerals that will release us from that unhealthy craving.
When we realize we have a problem, we've been taught to turn ourselves over to the medical establishment, which has made a fortune by selling us patented chemicals that they claim will solve our problem for us. In reality, they only repress one or more of the symptoms -- and create side-effects, while not really solving our problem.
Our problem is caused by our choice of what we eat -- and what we're not getting in our foods (because of the way they're grown to maximize yields, without concern for the actual nutrient content). Modern farmers, except for the organic farmers generally, are taking shortcuts. Food processors make the situation worse, but they disguise this by enhancing the foods appeal with flavor-enhancers. So, this creates an addiction to foods that don't satisfy our body's needs for vitamins and minerals.
Putting this knowledge into practice -- and breaking the bad habits of diet that were leading me to diabetes was the hardest thing I ever did. When I succeeded, I felt much better; when I "relapsed" and gave in to the old temptations (such as eating a whole large Cadbury bar at one sitting), I soon felt much worse.
(After a while, I learned it was up to me to stop the behavior that was making me feel bad -- and that was the key that only I could control.)
There were herbs that helped me break this thought habit and resist the temptation when it struck. Ironically, the FDA likes to ban these substances that can help us "think differently" and free ourselves from our destructive habits. But, ultimately, it is up to us to set ourselves free from the external foods and situations that are making us sick.
I had seen what diabetes and overweight would do to wreck family members' lives, so I was determined to beat diabetes the right way, rather than falling prey to conventional medical drugs that really don't solve the problem.
Now, as I approach my 70th birthday, I'm satisfied I made the wise choice. Herbs and mineral supplements made it easier -- and made prescription drugs unnecessary.
Saying that supplements are too expensive misses the point that we can either pay as we go for health, or we can slowly lose our health & hope we can afford care in our old age.
