Sep 5, A Reminder of a Major Cause of Diabetes-2, Obesity, and NAFLD Found in Food & Drinks

A new study has demonstrated an easy nutritional way to reverse Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), which is closely associated with obesity, prediabetes, and diabetes, Type-2. An article linked below will explain all this in detail, with scientific references.
The culprit in all these medical problems that have become much worse since about 1980 is high-fructose corn syrup, a sweetener made from corn that is used widely in energy drinks, other soft drinks, and processed foods. It is used, rather than regular cane or beet sugar, because it is far cheaper -- but it has very damaging effects because it is metabolized differently than regular table sugar.
Interestingly, HFCS also damages our leptin sensitivity, causing us not to realize we are full, so we keep eating or drinking until we're "stuffed". This is part of the reason for our obesity epidemic.
HFCS is the major cause of NAFLD, which in turn causes several other metabolic issues. Damage to the liver is not good, so it is very important to avoid HFCS by reading the labels of food & beverages and avoiding those that contain HFCS. (Food & drink manufacturers have become very sneaky in how HFCS is mentioned on labels now, but I don't have time or space to get into that now. Expect HFCS in most soft drinks and processed foods!)
The GOOD NEWS is that apparently Virgin Coconut Oil can reverse NAFLD, as described in this article. I don't know where they obtained the coconut oil that was used in this testing on rats. Perhaps they made their own, just prior to giving it to the rats.
Freshness of all oils is a big concern for my nutritional mentor, Dr. Wallach. His basic position on oils is that once they are exposed to air, they begin to oxidize, creating free radicals. So, unless you know an oil is pressed that day -- or packaged immediately without exposure to air -- it may be doing more harm than good in your body.
In any case, this is a timely reminder of the importance of avoiding food & drinks containing HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup). And please, don't take this info as a reason to keep drinking or consuming HFCS, with the excuse that you're balancing liver damage by also consuming Virgin Coconut Oil!
