Aug 7, A Strange Trigger for Back Pain

Tags: pain herbs spasms

I have been having flareups of back Pain for more than 40 years. Certain stimulating herbs, if taken over a period of several days, seem to tense up my back muscles and cause unpredictable spasms in various parts of my back.
My back has been much better since I've been using Dr. Wallach's Youngevity supplements, but apparently I am still subject to flareups when I start taking those herbs -- which I've been taking recently to support healthy levels of testosterone.
The herbs I'm referring to are Cordyceps, Maca, and Spirulina or Blue-Green Algae. Not all of these are for raising testosterone, but ALL I have noticed lead to my episodes of back pain spasms.
Sciatica has often been connected with these back spasms in the past, but that has totally been absent, seemingly due to my heavy use of the Youngevity nutritionals in support of bone and cartilage repair.
I've never met anyone who has this same sensitivity to these herbs, but I have no doubt this is what caused my back to seemingly slip out of alignment time after time.
I took some strong Red Vein kratom tea for the pain yesterday and will be stopping regular use of the Maca and cordyceps to let this tension in my back subside.
I have some Peruvian Cat's Claw herb that should be arriving today for the pain, so that should help.
Another suspect I forgot to mention is the first cup of coffee I had yesterday in months (to replace my usual AddieUP). This may have added to the tension and has been connected with it in the past.
I may have a cup later, just to see what that does. I love my caffeine, but -- if it's causing me back pain -- I may have to give it up.
If anyone else has experienced back spasms connected with herbal use or dark chocolate use, please leave me a comment about which herbs you believe caused it. Thank you.
