Jul 29, Is Amino Energy Suitable for Diabetics?

Someone asked if Amino Energy drink is suitable for diabetics. After looking over the label and checking the ingredients, here's what I think:
Make sure you are not sensitive to L-phenylalanine! I am and continued use of drinks containing L-phenylalanine will produce some very unpleasant side-effects, such as sleeplessness. You may notice these with drinks sweetened with Aspartame.
Phenylketonuria is the name of this condition -- and, it is very rare. Chances are, even if you have it in a milder form, you will already know about it.
My other concern is that Amino Energy is sweetened with Sucralose, which is a synthetic artificial sweetener, made from sugar. I have mentioned why artificial sweeteners are a problem for diabetics on the page Diabetes-Friendly Energy Drinks, linked below. Essentially they raise blood sugars, and cause us to eat more.
Bottom line, used in moderation to help with an exercise program and a healthy diet, this might not be a bad source of energy for most diabetics who can process L-phenylalanine normally.
