Five Influenza Vaccine Resources to Help With Your Medical Billing

I have put together 5 flu Vaccine resources for billing that I believe will be helpful to you and your practice.

1. Flu Vaccines by Manufacturers

The Immunization Action Coalition puts out a great list every year about the Flu Vaccine. This list provides the names of the influenza vaccine manufacturer, the vaccine name, dosage, the mercury content, and the age group the particular vaccine is produced for. You also get the codes needed to bill for commercial insurance and Medicare.

2. Flu Vaccine Codes from Medicare MLN

This PDF is from the Medicare Learning Network. It’s called Medicare Part B Immunization Billing, Seasonal Influenza Virus, Pneumococcal, and Hepatitis B.

It includes all the CPT codes, descriptions and ICD-10 codes you need to bill along with Frequently Asked Questions.

3. Reimbursements for Influenza Vaccines

Need to know the rates Medicare pays for the flu vaccine? You can find them on the CMS website. The section, Seasonal Influenza Vaccines Pricing, has the payment allowances for the 2016-2017 flu season.

4. List of National Drug Codes for Flu Vaccines

To bill the flu shot properly you will need to submit the National Drug Code (NDC) along with the claim. The package insert or the box the vaccine came in should have the NDC number listed. If you can’t find it, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) lists the NDCs for the influenza vaccine along with other vaccines.
