What is the Difference Between Sativa and Indica?

Cannabis has two main strains Sativa and Indica, from these two strains they are blended together into a ‘hybrid’. But many do not know what the difference is between Sativa and Indica. Understanding what the difference is can ultimately help you manage your medical needs better.

Sativa

This plant has long skinny leaves, it can grow over 20 feet but usually average just over 10 feet.

When patients use Sativa they report feelings of having more energy, feeling uplifted and generally in a better mood.

Sativa is considered best for daytime use.

Benefits of Sativa

+ Helps stimulate creativity

+ Uplifts mood

+ Beats depression

+ Gives you energy

+ Clears up brain fog

Some common Sativa strains:

Sour Diesel
You will have a happy, uplifted, energetic feeling

Durban Poison

Green Crack
Provides an energetic, happy, uplifting feeling. Will definitely make you laugh a lot

Indica

This plant has deep dark green leaves and are wider than Sativa’s. It grows just under 10 feet on average.

With Indica people get more of that ‘body high’ feeling. This results in muscles relaxing and a feeling of an overall sense of calmness. Indica is best to use at night as it causes a ‘sleepy sensation’.

+ Sedative

+ Relieves anxiety

+ Relieves pain

+ Enhanced physical sensation

+ Reduces inflammation

+ Stimulates appetite

+ Stops spasms seizures

Common Indica strains:

Northern Lights
Known to relieve pain, stress, and depression. Relaxes the muscles and your mind

Purple Kush
You will feel relaxed, happy and content all rolled into one

Purple Urkle
Great for insomniacs like myself, this will put you to sleep in no time

Then, of course, there are hybrids where they blend the two together, ‘Sativa’ & ‘Indica’. From that, there are a whole bunch of strains out of that, but that can be left for another time. Now you know the difference between the two. I hope this gives you a more informed choice as to how to treat your medical needs.

When it comes down to it, one plant helps the mind and the other the body. The two together help both, balance is the key and knowing what works for you. Everyone consumes cannabis different and it reacts differently in our bodies.

Another factor is the level of THC to Cannabinoids, the lower the percentage of THC the less effect of feeling ‘high’. I will discuss THC and Cannabinoids in more detail in a future post. Stay tuned!

In order for you to purchase cannabis dry, you will need to check with the legislation in your area.

Some areas you need a medical cannabis card to purchase, others you do not and other places it is illegal. So before you attempt to purchase, consider where you live and the legislation for cannabis. See my post about where it is currently legal in the states.

I hope you enjoyed this! What have you’ve experienced, did you try any of these strains? How did it help you? Leave your comments below!
