5 Oral Health Tips To Follow This Summer

The Summer tends to be a more exciting season compared to others. The end of the pandemic is on the horizon and life is returning to some semblance of normalcy.

However, with social activities returning to our daily lives this summer, the excitement can easily throw you off your normal daily routine. Make sure to keep your dental health a priority over the summer months with these five Oral Health Tips.

Brush Twice, Floss Once

While this may be a part of your daily routine already, it is easy to lose sight of your goals over the summer. Make sure you are brushing twice daily with a toothpaste containing fluoride, and flossing a minimum of once a day for the best results.

Choose Water

While a cold refreshing cola may sound great on a hot summer day, try to stick to water as much as possible. The sugar in cola promotes tooth decay, and the dark colour can also contribute to staining your teeth. For added benefits, drink water straight from your tap; tap water contains fluoride which will help strengthen your teeth’s enamel.

Use A Straw

At some point of the summer, you will most likely indulge from time to time. This is very normal and nothing to be overly concerned about in moderation. Consider using a straw when you do enjoy a sugary drink, to try and bypass your teeth from being overly exposed to sugar and darker colouring.

Snack Smart

Much like our favourite sugary drinks, our favourite snack foods seem more enticing over the summer months. Try as much as possible to stick to healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables, to help promote overall and Oral Health. The nutrients in healthy snacks can help strengthen and protect your teeth. Try foods such as carrots, apples, celery and more.

Schedule Your Dental Appointments

It is easy to lose track of time over the summer, but if you schedule your semi-annual appointments in advance, you can be sure that you will attend those important checkups twice a year. Use the summer as an opportunity to catch up with your dentist and head in for a checkup to monitor your oral health.
