Trigger Point Therapy – A Key Alternative / Complementary Medicine Treatment for Treating Muscular Pain

You suffer from nagging shoulder Pain or lower back pain or some other muscular pain elsewhere in the body – so what do you do?

As discussed in previous Apple A Day RX blogs using a pharmaceutical medication or a herbal remedy exclusively is not the answer.  The pain will continue, or it may cease for a short period and then return if you continue to solely use herbs and/or pharma medication as a treatment strategy. For effective treatment for muscular pain, it is advisable to employ an Alternative Medicine Therapy treatment such as Remedial Massage Therapy.

Remedial Massage Therapy

Remedial Massage Therapy is a common complementary therapy that is included in many integrative healthcare protocols for treating muscular pain effectively. Remedial Massage is not just an Alternative Medicine treatment to pharmaceuticals or herbal remedies that help alleviate pain, it can exclusively treat the root cause of muscular pain. Remedial Massage Therapy is a form of manual therapy aimed at treating the soft tissue of the body using a variety of techniques such as Deep tissue massage, Trigger Point Therapy (TPT), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Strain-Counter Strain (SCS), and Soft Tissue Release (STR) to name but a few.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are discrete, focal, sensitive spots located in a taut band of skeletal muscle. They produce pain locally and in a referred pattern. This can result in decreased range of motion and provides a potential for injury. I have trained many students in Trigger Point Therapy and we have all had amazing results when treating our clients.Trigger point massage therapy is a specific Remedial Massage technique. Diagnosis and treatment depends on accurate palpation with 2 to 4 kg/cm2 of pressure for 10 to 20 seconds over the suspected trigger.Working through cycles of isolated pressure and release, results in slowing the blood flow and relieving the tension in the ‘problem’ muscle. The client actively participates through deep breathing as well providing feedback on the exact pain location point and intensity which is reduces the pain as the therapy progresses.

So, if you are looking for an alternative medicine treatment for back pain ask a skilled massage therapy practitioner, or your integrative medicine doctor about does Trigger Point Therapy. You will achieve amazing muscular pain relief!
