How to Fix Droopy Eyelids Tips

As we age our Skin gradually loses its elasticity. This is especially true of the very thin and delicate skin around the eyes. When the skin of the eyelids begins to droop, it has both cosmetic and medical consequences. Droopy eyelids look bad and can interfere with good vision. In this article, we will share some facial exercises to help tighten droopy eyelids. We will also share sound advice on cosmetic procedures that can correct the problem. So, how to fix droopy eyelids? Read on to learn more.

Eyelids Need Exercise Too!

The eyelids are a portion of the ring of small, delicate muscles that surround the eye. This ring is call the orbiculans oculi. The tiny, delicate muscle in the eyelid works to open and close the lid. As you age, gravity may cause these tiny muscles to sag. Some lifestyle habits (e.g. smoking) can also cause skin to lose elasticity. When you exercise your eyelids, you can tone the skin and muscles and give your eyes a more open and youthful appearance.

You may be surprised to know that it doesn’t take much in the way of exercise to tighten droopy eyelids. Just ten minutes a day, four times weekly can make a big difference. Eyelid exercises are simple and can be done while watching TV, looking in the mirror and/or just before going to sleep at night.

There are quite a few variations on eyelid exercises. Here are a few to get you started.

Gradual Lid Close With Resistance

1. Raise your eyebrows.
2. Place your forefingers beneath your eyebrows to hold them in place.
3. Close your eyelids a bit at time. Don’t just shut your eyes all at once.
4. Hold your lids shut for 6 seconds. You should feel some resistance.

Repeat this exercise 5 times.

Lower Lid Squint

1. Place the tips of your index fingers at the outer corner of the eyes.
2. Place the tips of your middle fingers at the inner corners.
4. Apply gentle pressure while squinting with your lower lids and directing your gaze upward.
5. Your upper lids should stay open.

Hold for 6 seconds. Repeat ten times.

Double Lid Resistance Squeeze

1. Curve your index fingers and place them along the underside of your eyebrows.
2. Holding your brows in place, close your eyelids slowly.
3. Squeeze your eyes shut and hold for six seconds.
5. Repeat this exercise five times.

Perform this exercise while looking in the mirror.

Manual Eyelid Stretch

You can exercise the skin of your lids manually by placing your fingertips at the outer corners of your eyes and gently drawing the skin upward. Stroke the skin upward gently and hold it in place for six seconds. Repeat the exercise five times. This light massage will help stretch and rejuvenate the skin and improve blood circulation in the area. This is a good exercise to do when applying moisturizing cream at bedtime.

Use Effective Moisturizing Cream

Keeping the skin around your eyes moisturized will help maintain elasticity and reduce wrinkles. Be sure to choose a product that is safe for use around the eyes. Products containing copper peptides are especially helpful for firming up loose skin and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Be Consistent & Patient!

If you wish to achieve any results, you must perform eyelid exercises at least once a day, four days a week. For best results, practice two times a day, five days a week.

Eye exercises don’t work rapidly, but if you practice your exercises regularly, you should see good results within a couple of months. If not, you may wish to undergo cosmetic surgery to correct the problem.

Choose The Right Procedure

One very effective procedure called Thermage uses radio waves to heat up the skin surrounding the eyes. The heat causes the collagen in the skin to tighten up and produce more collagen. This is a non-invasive, FDA approved procedure that provides long-lasting (up to 2 years) results.

Blepharoplasty is another common procedure for tightening the skin of the eyelids. You may hear this procedure referred to as an “eye lift”. In this procedure, the extra skin, fat and muscle that causes drooping is removed. If your droopy eyelids interfere with your vision, this procedure is recommended, and your insurance may very well pay for it
