“The human body is not the person. Identity is the way the brain operates; it’s memories, it’s Sensory input and output. The mind is the person.”-Genesis P-Orridge
Sensory processing, put simply, is the process of organizing and responding to information that comes in through the senses. As human beings, we are bombarded by sensory input across all systems and a core function of survival requires us to integrate this information to produce an appropriate response. But what happens when that process is impaired? How does that manifest through functional activities? And ultimately, what if Sensory Processing differences are impacting your patient’s ability to fully participate in therapy? This course is designed to:
-Explore the processing and integration of all eight senses (auditory, visual, olfactory, tactile, gustatory, proprioceptive, vestibular, and interoceptive).
-Identify the 3 main patterns of sensory processing disorders. -Compare these issues across age groups.
-Identify comorbidities of sensory processing differences with other neurological conditions (CVA, MS, etc).
-Offer solutions and strategies to mitigating sensory differences in the rehabilitative setting.
