Standoffs are those neat little metal pieces that are usually silver and hold really cool looking signs and graphics off of walls. You've seen them hundreds of times in places like airports, sports stadiums, music venues, theaters, galleries, museums and large corporate centers just to mention a few. What you may not know is that they are now affordable enough that they are being used in homes as well! Here are the 3 top things you should consider if you're thinking of using Standoffs in your home.

1. Where will you use them, inside or out? This is probably the most important question because you want your standoffs to last and look great for a long time. If you choose the wrong type of material you may not get the results you want.

Outdoors: This is your greatest consideration. If your standoffs are going to be in the elements then it is important to choose an aluminum standoff because it provides protection against rust. We do offer an outdoor stainless steel standoff if that is what your design calls for but please make sure you are getting the right stainless for outdoor use. Not all stainless is rustproof

Indoors: Indoors is not nearly as important from a materials standpoint because they should not be facing the elements. What the main consideration for inside is that you get the right style. This opens it up to more choices with color and finish. However, with that being said, some indoor installation might be near indoor water features. If this is the case with your install please use the proper materials to make sure you design lasts for many years to come.

2. What will they be supporting? What exactly is it that you are displaying? We offer several different types of standoffs. Some are what are called "Edge Grip Standoffs" that, as the name implies, grips the edge of the material eliminating the necessity of drilling into your material. We also have tamper proof standoffs that make it difficult for vandals to access the display. Then there are Eco standoffs that are manufactured with hollow material making them lighter and more ecofriendly using less material. There are also square standoffs and standoffs for desktops and more.

3. What kind of surface will they be mounted on? What is the material made from? Is it drywall or concrete? This helps determine how you will actually mount your piece. If your piece is very light then anchors are a very quick, simple consideration. If your piece carries more weight then you may want to consider finding studs for the screws to catch. By mounting in the wall studs this gives your system the greatest strength.
