My NaNoWriMo Update: Round 7, Week 1

Seven years—let’s do this! Here’s my Nanowrimo update for this week.

In case this is your first visit to my blog, I publish weekly posts about NaNoWriMo throughout October and November.

We’re a handful of days in to November and I’m ready to continue my annual tradition: Post a NaNoWriMo update regarding my novel’s status on a weekly basis.

I’m sticking to the traditional rules of National Novel Writing Month when it comes to this year’s novel writing challenge.

What You Can Expect From My Weekly NaNoWriMo Update

This year, I plan to:

  • Write 1,667+ words every day
  • Share my National Novel Writing Month blog posts on Twitter
  • Post My NaNoWriMo updates every Monday

We all know that writing an entire novel is no easy feat! With everything else happening in my life, these goals are more than enough for me to focus on this month.

How I’m Participating in National Novel Writing Month

Completing my first NaNoWriMo novel draft Years Ago was both elating and exhausting. No, it wasn’t the first time I’ve finished writing a novel from start to finish—I did earn my MFA in creative writing after all—but it was the first time I had to complete it in such a short time span.

I was proud of what I achieved on my story years ago. And it was then that I realized that the entire draft had to be scrapped.

Not because it was written poorly. Because the story needed to be told from a different angle.

Every word in this year’s NaNoWriMo manuscript is entirely new. Yes, the premise of my novel is still (somewhat) the same. However, the approach, characters and plot arc have changed so drastically that this is easily a brand new novel draft.

What This Means For My Blog

Every Monday in November, I plan to publish my NaNoWriMo update as my blog post for the week. I’ll review my progress, my obstacles, my successes and my goals. That way, you are always in the know on where I stand during this creative writing journey I have strangely decided to take on again.

So far, I am at 6,864 words. By next Monday, my goal is 18,500 words with a daily goal of at least 1,667 words.

Let’s get to writing! What’s your NaNoWriMo update for this week? Are we NaNoWriMo writing buddies? Share your writing plans for this month in the comments section below.
