Blockchain Tech and Green Merch — What You Need to Know

In today’s day and age, many customers are actively looking for Sustainable brands. They want to give their money and support to businesses that know they have a responsibility to the planet, even if their products are more pricey.

Thus, many brands are slowly switching their policies and opting to buy Green products, especially branded merch. By presenting themselves as sustainable, they can deepen their relationships with regular customers and attract new ones effortlessly.

However, finding green branded merch isn’t as easy as it might seem. For one, many brands are simply calling their merch sustainable while still selling items that are bad for the environment.

Luckily, there is a new method of determining whether promo items are truly green. It is called Blockchain technology, and here is what you need to know about it.

Blockchain Technology Defined

Put simply, a blockchain is a sort of ledger which is used for tracking assets, recording transactions, and building overall trust between partnering companies. Nowadays, blockchain mostly serves to track bitcoin transactions and link them across various computers and networks.

However, that is not everything blockchains can be useful for. In fact, they can also help companies track green items from the very first step in the production process. As such, this tech can help prove whether a company created a certain product using sustainable ingredients and methods.

How Does It Work?

For the sake of an example, we will explain how this tracking technology works on cotton waste used to make tote bags. However, bear in mind that this method works on just about any material, from coffee grounds to bamboo.

When they acquire post-industrial cotton waste, companies first add tracking particles to it. Scientists call them AWARE particles, and they will later allow scanners to track the entire production process.

After adding the particles, factories can create yarn from the cotton waste and then use it to make fabric. At this point, they confirm that the particles are functional by simply scanning them.

After this step, the manufacturer can either sell the fabrics to others or make their own tote bags. Either way, scanning the bags should also reveal the particles, proving that the bags are, in fact, sustainable.

Besides bags and other products made from cotton or different green fabrics, blockchain technology can be used to track all other types of products. For example, companies can add the trackers to materials for travel mugs, notebooks, pencils, and so on.

A New Way to Buy Branded Merch

With blockchain scanners, companies can check the products they buy before making a purchase. Since all the products are a part of a shared database, you are not at risk of buying something that is actually harmful to the environment.

Thus, when you offer your customers and employees green products, you can be sure that you are being truthful. And when they choose your brand over others for the sustainability that you offer, they will be making a real difference.
