ITTO and KFS nourishes their partnership

ITTO and the Korea Forest Service (KFS) signed a memorandum of understanding on October 17, 2016 to increase cooperation on the restoration and sustainable management of tropical Forests.

The MOU was signed at KFS headquarters in Seoul, Republic of Korea, by Dr Shin Won Sop, Minister of the KFS, and Dr Steven Johnson, ITTO Officer-in-Charge. The MOU will support sustainable tropical forest management with a particular focus on restoring degraded forests. It spans three years and, to facilitate its implementation, the KFS will second a professional officer to ITTO from early 2017.

“We are delighted to enter into this agreement with the KFS to continue our already excellent cooperation,” said Dr Johnson. “It will strengthen our joint policy and project work on forest restoration in the context of the global agenda, including the Paris climate agreement.” Dr. Johnson added further.

“This MOU will help the KFS play a greater role in the conservation, management and sustainable use of tropical forests, said Dr Shin. “The KFS is sharing its greening experiences with the international community with the aim of increasing the contributions of forests worldwide.” Concluded Shin.
