What is the Difference Between Google Search Console and Google Analytics?

With its unmatched search capabilities and analytical tools, Google helps marketers and information searchers in equal measure. While marketers can place ads on Google, users can search information on the search engine. Google has developed a number of tools, such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console, to help marketers achieve their goals. However, both these Google tools can provide information about your online presence, but they are not the same.

If you are looking for the details of these tools, you have landed on the right page. Here is everything you need to know about them.

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is one of the most popular marketing tools capable of providing a detailed overview of traffic data to marketers. Google Analytics highlights how online visitors interact with your site by offering statistics like total site visits, bounce rate, average time on site, and even demographic data of the visitors. Furthermore, Google Analytics helps you assess the performance of campaigns you make through Google ads.

Google Analytics' main objective is to analyse and process website usage data, which also helps in identifying trends and opportunities you can take advantage of to increase traffic and your web presence.

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free tool that helps users measure their site’s traffic, see keyword performance, fix issues, and receive messages from Google about their website. In the beginning, when it was launched, it was named Webmaster but Google Search Console has been given a new name with added features. Several changes were made but its purpose is still the same.

Difference Between Google Search Console and Google Analytics

Following are the differences between them -

  • Data Measurement- The first major difference between them is the way they collect data. Google analytics uses Bounce Rate, Unique Page Views, Average Session Duration, Conversions and Audience Demographics for collecting data. Whereas Google Search Console takes the help of Impressions, Clicks, Click-through Rate, Keyword Queries, Index Coverage Reporting for doing the same.

  • Verification Process- For verifying your domain or data source, you use both these Google tools, but they work differently to process your data. With Google Search Console, you can sign up by simply logging into your Google account. On the contrary, for Google analytics, after following the login process, you need to follow the prompts to connect each of your data sources individually.

  • Reporting- A single Google Search Console account can only report the data for one domain. You will need to create several accounts for reporting data from multiple domains. But Google Analytics has the capability of reporting data from multiple domains with a single account.

  • Error Monitoring- Google analytics is less likely to report the error due to its weak error finding tools. Whereas Google Search Console can provide detailed information on errors that determine whether your website’s visitors have good experience with your website or not.
