Saudi Arabia bends marriage law for Ronaldo

Ronaldo

Following his contentious departure from Manchester United last month, the legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, signed with Al Nassr, a Riyadh-based Saudi Arabian football team. Since then, the Portuguese celebrity has received a number of luxuries including a sumptuous mansion and a yearly salary of £175 million.

At Mrsool Park in Riyadh on Tuesday, Ronaldo was unveiled as "the world's greatest footballer" in front of 25,000 spectators. The occasion served as a lavish celebration of his new athletic endeavour with Saudi Arabia.

SPORT claimed that although Ronaldo and his longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez would allegedly break the law in Saudi Arabia because it is against the law for unmarried couples to live together, they aren't anticipated to face any consequences from the Saudi government.

The aforementioned magazine supported its claims with testimonies from two different Saudi lawyers. The legal experts forecasted that Ronaldo's friendship with Rodriguez would be less likely to draw the attention of the appropriate authorities.

"Even though the rules still forbid cohabitation without a marriage licence, the government has started to ignore the issue and doesn't prosecute anyone. Of course, when there is a problem or a crime, these laws are employed "one lawyer remarked.

Another legal expert agreed, indicating that Saudi officials no longer meddle in the private affairs of foreigners. According to the Spanish journal, "the Saudi Arabian authorities today do not meddle in this topic [in the case of foreigners], although the legislation remains to forbid cohabitation outside of marriage."

Mentioning that neither Ronaldo nor the Saudi government have made any official statements about the situation as of right now would be impolite. Ronaldo was scheduled to make his new club debut on Thursday, but Sportsmail exclusively broke the news that the athlete is out because he hasn't finished serving his two-game FA suspension for breaking an Everton fan's phone last season. Al Nassr is prohibited from using its new striker until he has played in two competitive games that he would have been available for, despite the fact that the ban was put in place while he was still with Manchester United..
