Making the decision to move a loved one into assisted living is not easy, especially when that loved one was a very active 70-something who still enjoyed riding his bike and being outdoors, but whose declining memory made continuing to live alone a hazard to his safety. When my sister and I looked for the perfect place for our dad, George, we learned very quickly what we did not want, which was a large, hotel-like facility that was overwhelming to him, a person who never liked being around a lot of people. We toured a handful of places before discovering Camellia Place. I knew as soon as I walked in the door that this was the place for my dad and he moved in shortly after. I remember the first night we left him, after preparing his room, getting him settled in, and saying our goodbyes, my sister and I pulled the car around where he could not see us so we could make sure he walked back to his new home safely. It was akin to dropping our child off at school and praying that the other kids would be nice to him, that he would not eat alone, and that he would make friends and be accepted. I worked for Camellia place for 3 years. Over that time I formed relationships with several residents and their families. A few weeks ago, after following all proper protocol, I resigned to move on to other opportunities. Today I went to visit some residents as I frequently do on Sunday afternoons and was told by the new management that any previous employees are no longer welcome on the property. The new managers and owners are not at all concerned with building relationships, nor continuing relationships. What used to be the premier assisted living/memory care in our community is now Just another mediocre facility whose only concerned Is The almighty dollar. The food budget, the activities budget, caregiver quality, I’ll speak to this effect. Looks aren’t everything, “ If it looks too good to be true it probably is” !

Would not recommend as a memory care facility! May be an ok assisted living facility, but not somewhere I would place a loved one for memory care. We had a loved one in memory care and anytime we visited residents were sitting in front of television. Very few if any activities were ever done with memory care residents. We were told they were unable to help manage our loved ones medicines and that they didn’t have a doctor on staff because they were called back to hospitals. Recent corporate takeover…no longer family owned.
