For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, the German Audiobook Award was handed out in person this year. Productions were honored in seven categories, which were selected from 350 nominated entries by the seven-member jury and a separate children’s jury.

This year’s awards went to “Best Radio Play”, “Best Artist” and “Best Female Artist”, “Best Children’s Audiobook”, “Best Entertainment”, “Best Podcast” and “Special Audiobook”.

“Best Radio Play”

The new version of the classic “Bonjour tristesse” was awarded as the best radio play, which is like a “vacation by the sea” and would immerse the listener in the idyll of the Côte d’Azur.

“Dear Interpreter”

The actress Nina Hoss received the top prize for female reading voices with her reading of the novel “Zur See” by Dörte Hansen. The judges described their reading as “confident and calm, wide awake and pointed”.

“Best Artist”

The actor Max von Pufendorf was classified as the best interpreter. Dedicated to his interpretation of the Norwegian novel I am someone else. Heptalogy III-V” was able to prevail. The “clear, warm voice” and “captivating speech melody” would take the listener by the hand and, despite the “sparse storytelling style”, make the text a listening highlight that is much more difficult to consume by reading it yourself because of its tapeworm sentences.

“Best Audiobook for Kids”

The best children’s audiobook is also available on Spotify and is entitled “Sansaria. dreams of darkness”. Tania Messner’s almost 11-hour title is varied and excellently performed by speaker Jona Mues, who attributes a voice to almost all characters.

Entertainment, podcast, special audiobook

The voice actress Luise Helm received the “Best Entertainment” award for her portrayal of the novel “A Question of Chemistry”. “Best podcast” was the WDR production “17 days of failure – how volunteers helped in Afghanistan”. And the “audiobook special” this year is the five-hour fantasy audio play “Der Ring des Nibelungen”.
