With the Synology DS223, the provider Synology, known for its network storage, has presented its latest model for private users and home office setups that do not necessarily depend on maximum performance values.

The Synology DS223 comes with two hard drive slots and has a gross capacity of up to 36 terabytes. The network storage is therefore particularly suitable as a backup destination, as an archive station for video surveillance and for file sharing.

Same DSM system as the greats

Just like the big Synology devices, Synology DS223 also runs the DSM operating system with a full range of functions. Using the Numerous Synology Services, such as using Synology Cloud Sync to synchronize various cloud services with the network storage or installing Synology Surveillance Station to back up surveillance camera recordings, is easily possible.

The DSM operating system provided by Synology is one of the main arguments for purchasing the NAS devices from the manufacturer. Numerous Synology services such as Synology Drive, Synology Photos, Hyper Backup and more can be configured and used on a web-based basis. The provider’s website provides a very good overview of the software features offered.

With the Synology DS223, there is now a relatively cheap entry ticket into the world of Synology applications. The entry-level model with a Realtek processor (RTD1619B with 4 cores and 1.7 GHz) and 2 gigabytes of RAM (2 GB DDR4 non-ECC) has three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a network connection (1 GbE RJ-45) and has a suggested retail price of 284.40 euros.

The new DS223 is available from specialist retailers from today.

Our tip: the DiskStation DS923+

Our current recommendation for ambitious home users who also want to use their Syno as a media server and for video streaming is the DiskStation DS923+ with four bays and a suggested retail price of $630 without drives.
