Apple wants the Premier League, ARD and ZDF to get the Olympics ›jojo Reviews

After Apple and the American Professional Football League “Major League Soccer” (MLS) have already agreed on a ten-year exclusive partnership, Apple is now also showing interest in the UK’s first guard.

Sky Sports has been broadcasting since 1992

According to information from the DAILY MAIL, Apple is preparing to bid for the UK Premier League broadcasting rights to include it in its own Apple TV portfolio.

The Premier League is currently contractually linked to Sky Sports and BT Sport, but broadcasting rights, which were last tied for three years, are up for grabs at the start of the 2025 season.

Should Apple take the butter off heavyweight Sky Sports here, it would be the first time since 1992 that British professional football league matches would not be broadcast on Sky.

ARD and ZDF secure Olympic Games

In terms of broadcasting rights, the public broadcasters of ARD and ZDF also made themselves heard today. Both broadcasters have secured media exploitation rights for the Olympics until 2032. This will affect both the Summer and Winter Games, which will take place until then.

It remains to be seen to what extent these will also be available via the media libraries of both broadcasters. Discovery has gained access to the associated pay-TV rights to use the Olympic Games in its own streaming offerings.

In any case, as those in charge of the broadcasters note, “comprehensive reporting across all digital broadcast channels” is planned. The current agreement covers the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the 2030 Winter Olympics and the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane.
