Gulf news

Gulf News is the most popular English newspaper in the UAE, published by Gulf News Media. A news website called Gulfnews.com is also based in the UAE.

As well as contract publishing, GN Media publishes magazines, including Friday, the most widely distributed Magazine in the country, based on BPA data.

As the region's largest and most sophisticated printer, GN Media has a strong presence in this industry.

Gulf News' history

The Gulf saw the launch of two English dailies in 1978. Despite the success of its competitor, Gulf News remained unstable and barely survived with a circulation of 3000, while its competitor built up a loyal readership. Despite ownership changes, the company was on the verge of closure due to no investors willing to take a risk.

Suddenly, Gulf News' fate changed dramatically. Businessmen from Dubai took over the company in 1984. By the end of 1985, Al Nisr Publishing LLC launched a new version of Gulf News.

The new technology was harnessed by Gulf News' editorial, marketing, circulation teams and production teams within a few months after it moved into its new facilities. Advertising revenues soared by over 40% in the first three months as a multi-pronged marketing strategy was employed. Subscriptions also increased dramatically.
