According to a report from ARY News on Thursday, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reached an agreement to strengthen their bilateral trade and foster collaboration in various sectors, including energy and defense.

Following a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan in Baku, a joint news conference was held where President Aliyev announced the forthcoming signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote trade and cooperation.

President Aliyev stated that multiple Azerbaijani delegations would soon visit Pakistan. One delegation will focus on trade and investment promotion, another on energy cooperation, and a third will concentrate on defense cooperation.

President Aliyev also mentioned that both countries have agreed to increase the number of flights between their respective capitals. He emphasized the significant potential for collaboration in the education sector and expressed hope for more Pakistani students studying in Azerbaijani educational institutions. He acknowledged the valuable contributions made by Azerbaijani youth who had studied in Pakistan.

Regarding defense, President Aliyev disclosed that discussions were held on cooperation in this area, and both sides agreed to expand the number of military exercises. He emphasized the importance of a robust military capability in safeguarding independence and territorial integrity.

President Aliyev highlighted the long-standing solidarity between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, stating that the people of both countries share the same views as their leaders.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed complete agreement between the two sides on all bilateral and multilateral issues. He emphasized the deep-rooted brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, built on mutual trust, respect, and a shared sense of purpose.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that despite the strong historical ties, the trade and investment portfolio, exchange of visits, and cooperation in other areas between the two countries do not adequately reflect the depth of the relationship. He emphasized the desire of both sides to strengthen this bond.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the potential for cooperation in energy and petroleum products, particularly in the field of solar energy. He welcomed Azerbaijan’s facilitation of increased rice imports from Pakistan and expressed support for the launch of Azeri airline operations between Baku and Islamabad. He reassured Azerbaijan of Pakistan’s commitment to working closely together to achieve the set cooperation targets in various sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Azerbaijan’s steadfast support for the Kashmiri people, who have faced Indian atrocities and terrorism for many decades. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and acknowledged the brave efforts of the Azerbaijani forces in fighting for their rights.
