Kia Carens Scores 3-Star at GNCAP Safety Ratings

The recent crash test results of the Kia Carens conducted by Global NCAP have garnered significant attention in the automotive industry.

Kia Carens Crash Test Ratings

Adult Occupancy Protection (AOP)

Initially, the Kia Carens faced scrutiny after receiving a 0-star rating for Adult Occupancy Protection during its first test under the new protocols. This rating was primarily attributed to poor protection for the driver’s neck and marginal protection for the chest and knees. However, Kia swiftly responded to this assessment by enhancing the restraint systems in models manufactured after December 11, 2023. As a result, the Carens secured a commendable 3-star AOP rating in subsequent tests, showcasing a marked improvement in Safety performance.

Child Occupancy Protection (COP)

In terms of child occupancy protection, the Kia Carens exhibited noteworthy progress, receiving a 5-star COP rating in its latest assessment. This significant improvement can be attributed to enhanced restraint systems and the incorporation of advanced safety features such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, rear disc brakes, three-point seat belts for all seats, and ISOFIX anchors.

Key Findings from Global NCAP

Global NCAP’s assessment highlighted certain areas of concern, particularly regarding the Carens’ bodyshell integrity in frontal impacts. Despite the improvements in safety ratings, the bodyshell was deemed unstable and incapable of withstanding further loadings. Additionally, the absence of a side pole impact test due to the 3-star rating raised questions about the vehicle’s overall safety performance.

Kia’s Response and Future Outlook

As Kia continues to prioritize vehicle safety, it is imperative to address the concerns raised by Global NCAP and implement necessary enhancements. The company’s commitment to improving safety standards underscores its dedication to ensuring customer satisfaction and promoting road safety initiatives. Moving forward, Kia aims to further refine its safety technologies and integrate innovative features to enhance the overall safety performance of its vehicles.
