Kia’s next big player in the Indian market, the Clavis SUV, has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the very first time.
After making waves during testing in South Korea, the Clavis is gearing up to position itself between the Sonet and the Seltos in Kia’s impressive product lineup.
First Impressions
Witnessing the Clavis on Indian roads for the first time, it’s evident that Kia has kept its design consistent with the model seen in South Korea.
At the front, the vertical Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) grab attention, encasing a sleek headlamp setup. The side and rear profiles reveal a tall-boy design reminiscent of the Soul, a model Kia sells outside India.
Despite bearing a resemblance to the Exter, Kia has ambitious plans to position the Clavis above the Sonet in its lineup.
Key Features
In its quest to outshine the competition, Kia plans to equip the Clavis with an array of features, drawing inspiration from the popular Seltos. Anticipate a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and a generous 12 parking sensors (6 in the front and 6 at the rear).
The inclusion of flush door handles adds a touch of sophistication to the exterior. Despite being a sub-4m vehicle, the Clavis aims to cater to those seeking a feature-packed SUV without compromising on size.
Powertrain Options
Looking under the hood, the Clavis promises a diverse range of powertrain options. Speculations abound regarding its potential as Kia’s first hybrid car in India, complemented by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine akin to the one found in the Sonet.
Diesel remains a possibility, contingent on evolving emission norms. Additionally, an Electric Vehicle (EV) variant is on the horizon, boasting a claimed range of an impressive 450km.
Anticipated Launch and Pricing Insights
Kia enthusiasts can mark their calendars for an expected unveiling of the Clavis by the end of 2024 or early the following year.
The launch strategy is projected to kick off with the petrol/diesel version, followed by the EV variant a few months later. The precise launch of the hybrid option remains uncertain.
In terms of pricing, the Clavis is estimated to start at Rs. 14 lakh, reaching up to Rs. 26 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), positioning itself as a competitive yet premium offering.
