Honda has recently issued a recall for two of its premier motorcycles, the Gold Wing GL1800 tourer, and the CBR1000RR Fireblade.
The reason behind this recall is a potential issue with the fuel pumps in both models.
Honda Gold Wing GL1800
The Gold Wing GL1800, celebrated as Honda’s flagship tourer in India, has gained popularity for its comfort and performance.
However, units manufactured between December 2017 to December 2023 are identified as potentially affected. If you own a Gold Wing GL1800 within this production timeframe, it’s crucial to pay attention to the recall details.
Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade
The CBR1000RR Fireblade, serving as the predecessor to the current Fireblade RRR, is a formidable sportbike admired for its agility and power.
The recall encompasses bikes manufactured between September 2017 to April 2020. If your CBR1000RR falls within this period, taking prompt action is advised.
The Fuel Pump Issue
According to Honda, the fuel pump impellers in the affected motorcycles may have been improperly molded. This manufacturing irregularity could lead to impeller deformation, resulting in fuel pump failure. The consequence of such a failure is a potential bike stall while in motion, posing risks to rider safety.
Honda’s Response
Honda assures affected motorcycle owners that the inspection and replacement of faulty parts will be conducted free of charge, regardless of the warranty status.
To facilitate this process, Honda BigWing dealers will notify concerned parties as soon as the replacement parts become available.
Alternatively, owners can take a proactive approach by visiting the Honda BigWing India website. By entering the VIN number of their motorcycles, they can ascertain whether their specific unit is subject to the recall.
According to Honda, rectifying the identified problem is estimated to take approximately one hour.
Production Timeframes and Variants
It’s essential to note the production timeframes for each model. For the Gold Wing GL1800, the affected units were manufactured from December 2017 to December 2023.
On the other hand, the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes in question were produced between September 2017 to April 2020.
While the Gold Wing GL1800 is available in a single variant in India, the CBR1000RR Fireblade was offered in two variants – standard and SP.
