Kia EV9 Wins 2024 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year

The Kia EV9 has clinched the prestigious 2024 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year award, securing its position as a trailblazer in the world of electric SUVs.

With votes from 75 female motoring journalists across 52 countries, the EV9 emerged victorious, marking Kia’s consecutive triumph in this esteemed competition.

A Resounding Victory

The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year award saw stiff competition, with 63 cars competing for the top spot. However, the Kia EV9, with its innovative design and engineering, stood out among the finalists.

The winner, announced on International Women’s Day, reflects not only the vehicle’s performance but also its impact on the automotive landscape.

Juror’s Perspective

Renuka Kirpalani from AutoCar India, a prominent figure in the automotive world and a juror in the competition, shared her insights, praising the EV9 for its game-changing contributions.

The 180-degree rotating seats, offering a lounge-like experience, and the seamless blend of spaciousness and versatility were highlighted as standout features.

Kirpalani applauded Kia for consistently delivering exceptional packages, noting that the EV9 “changed the game in the segment.”

The Winning Features

The Kia EV9, an all-electric SUV, made its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo, boasting bold styling cues crafted by renowned ex-BMW stylist Karim Habib.

The two-box design, three-row cabin, and multiple seating layouts showcase Kia’s commitment to pushing the envelope of innovation.

Diverse Powertrain Options

The EV9 presents three powertrain options, including a base RWD variant with a 76.1kWh battery and a mid-spec RWD long-range variant.

The range-topping model features two electric motors, although specific range figures are yet to be disclosed. Notably, the EV9 supports bi-directional and ultra-fast charging capabilities, enhancing the convenience of electric mobility.

WWCOTY Category Winners

In addition to the overall victory, the Kia EV9 triumphed in the Best Urban Car category. The competition also recognized excellence in other categories, with the Volvo EX30 winning Family Car, BMW Series 5 securing Large Car, Volkswagen Amarok clinching 4X4 Pick-up, and Aston Martin DB12 taking home the Exclusive Car title.

The Selection Process

The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year committee rigorously evaluated the 63 contenders based on various criteria, including safety, driving experience, comfort, technology, efficiency, environmental impact, and value for money.

Grant Thronton, operating from Auckland, New Zealand, authenticated the voting process, ensuring transparency and credibility in the results.

Kia’s Commitment to India

Kia Motors made a notable entry into the Indian automotive space in 2019, introducing the Kia Seltos. Presently, the Korean automaker offers a diverse lineup, including the Sonet and Seltos SUVs, the Carens MPV, and the all-electric EV6.

With an investment of Rs 2,000 crore dedicated to R&D, infrastructure development, and EV manufacturing in India, Kia’s commitment to the Indian market is evident.

The highly anticipated EV9 is set to make its debut in India later this year as a full import, aligning with Kia’s vision to introduce two locally manufactured EVs by 2025.

Conclusion

As the Kia EV9 enjoys the glory of winning the 2024 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year award, it not only showcases Kia’s prowess in innovation but also solidifies the brand’s commitment to providing exceptional driving experiences.
