BMW Launches iX1 Electric SUV at Rs 66.90 Lakh!

BMW has introduced the iX1 xDrive30, an all-Electric SUV priced at Rs 66.90 Lakh (ex-showroom). Based on the highly popular BMW X1, which dominated as the best-selling luxury SUV for the brand in FY2023, the iX1 promises an exciting foray into the electric vehicle segment in India.

BMW iX1 Design and Features

Drawing from its Combustion Counterpart, the iX1 shares a similar design with a distinctive ‘i’ badge on the front grille. Rolling on 18-inch alloy wheels and equipped with adaptive suspension, it offers a choice of elegant monotone colors – grey, silver, black, and white.

Inside, the iX1 boasts a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system operated through BMW’s intuitive iDrive operating system. The digital information display spans 10.25 inches, and the interiors feature Aluminum ‘Mesheffect’ finish with chrome accents. Rear bench reclining and a spacious 490-liter boot amplify practicality.

BMW iX1 Features and Safety

The iX1 packs a host of premium features, including two-zone climate control, massaging front seats, a Harmon Kardon 12-speaker sound system, six ambient lighting modes, and a panoramic sunroof. Additionally, it offers adaptive LED headlights, automatic tailgate operation, and parking assist.

Safety-wise, it aligns with its combustion counterpart, offering ABS, ESP, traction control, and ADAS. Due to its silent electric powertrain, the iX1 employs an artificial sound system to alert pedestrians, operational up to 30 kph.

BMW iX1 Battery, Range, and Performance

The iX1 boasts dual motors, granting it all-wheel drive capability. Together, they deliver 313hp and 494Nm, propelling the EV from 0-100kph in 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 180kph. Its 66.4kWh battery pack bestows a commendable range of 440km.

For charging, a standard 11kW AC charger can fully charge the battery in 6.3 hours, while a rapid 130kW DC charger takes it from 10-80 percent in a mere 29 minutes.

Price and Competition

Positioned as BMW’s most accessible electric vehicle in India, the iX1 stands between rivals like the Mercedes EQB (Rs 77.50 lakh) and the Volvo XC40 Recharge (Rs 56.9 lakh). Competitors like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 45.95 lakh) and Kia EV6 (Rs 60.95 lakh) offer further options in the segment. Future local assembly may contribute to price reduction, similar to the approach taken with the X1.
